You have to shoot, otherwise you can’t score

These are the words of professional football player and coach Johan Cruyff. It can be applied to so much more than just soccer. This has been the motivation behind team Mpact as we kicked off our season with a rather shaky start.

Playing a few games together against neighbouring companies decidedly improved our skills as a team. Mpact supported us by providing full kits, equipment and even water at the games. We shot our way into a very strong position among the teams of the industrial league and we even managed
to secure a win against the local municipality team.

According to Dr Ron Friedman, an award-winning psychologist and behaviour change expert, sport can enhance your performance at work. Some of the main benefits include improved concentration, faster learning, prolonged mental stamina and enhanced creativity.

Organizations are much more likely to perform well when their people work effectively as a team. This can be attributed to good TEAMWORK that creates unity and synergy because the combined effect of the team is greater than the sum of individual efforts. Enhancing organizations performance is the overarching benefit but teamwork also benefits individuals enhancing solidarity and cooperation. The Mpact football team has enabled us to identify each other’s strengths and weaknesses, which is really benefiting the workplace. We have good talent and this activity is also a form of entertainment as well as a platform for everyone to express their love for the beautiful game. While juggling shifts, going on call outs, and long tiring working hours taking their toll, the teambuilding brings us together which assists us in living up to our slogan, “Easy to do business with”.

Behind every great product is a great team and within our team we have very fulfilled employees. Like soccer teammates passing the ball to one another to find the perfect shot, each teammate plays a specific, meaningful role. Teamwork at the workplace has clearly led to an increase in efficiency, improved communication, fast and unique brainstorming, effective workload
distribution, and has established a culture in which each employee feels a sense of belonging and empowerment.

As Andrew Carnegie once noted, “teamwork is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results”.

We have seen a great mutual respect amongst employees when Managers and those reporting to them come together as equals and valuing each other’s participation. We have witnessed the prejudice and stereotyping that the employees might have had about their team members decrease.

Moreover, when a sport team works together towards a common goal, mutual trust, mutual respect and inter-employee communication amongst employees is triumphantly achieved.
